Beyond The Pines MTB JAM: Round Two
This year’s Jam was a laid-back collision of social laps, a proper whip-off, cold beers and a solid crew of locals coming together to celebrate the culture that runs deep in Margs. From the moment the first bikes rolled into the pines, you could feel the anticipation building. Riders were scoping lines, catching up with mates and soaking in that familiar pre-ride buzz that only happens when the community turns up in force.
MTB Jam has never been about racing or formal competition. It’s about flow and freedom - riding what feels right and backing yourself in. Throughout the afternoon, riders stitched together their own lines, sent features at their own pace and cheered each other on loud and proud. There were plenty of “did you see that?” moments echoing through the trees - clean whips, surprise sends and a few sketchy saves that somehow held together.

The younger crew were especially impressive, absolutely charging and riding with a confidence that speaks volumes about how strong the South West MTB scene has become. Watching groms roll back up for another hit, building courage in real time, is always one of the best parts of the day.
More than anything, MTB Jam feels like one big community session. You ride, you watch, you cheer your mates and you get behind someone pushing their limits for the first time. There were full sends and there were roll-throughs, but every rider got the same level of noise and encouragement from the sidelines. That shared respect is what makes the event what it is.
Behind the scenes, the day wouldn’t be possible without the people who shape the dirt long before anyone drops in. Huge thanks to the local trail builders and volunteers who continue to grow and maintain the Margaret River MTB network. The lines were smooth, the features dialled and the progression across the tracks meant riders of all levels could find their flow. Special appreciation goes to MRORCA, whose ongoing support strengthens the riding community and helps make days like this happen.

And then, of course, there’s the post-ride ritual. Nothing quite compares to that first cold beer after a solid session. The Jam was aligned with the re-release of Beyond The Pines - a brew inspired by the very trails that brought everyone together. As the sun dipped lower, bikes were leaned up, helmets rested on tables and a cold beer in hands.
Two wheels, good dirt and cold beer. That’s how we do it in Margs.
